Website Design – Kavanagh Engineering

kavanagh engineering

Expertise in many field

The background

This was one of three new websites we were commissioned to design and build for a client whose premises is in Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny.

Kavanagh Engineering  is a long-established firm with expertise in all aspects of electrical engineering. It has also branched out over the years into fields such as shop and cinema fit-outs, property maintenance, photovoltaic solar panels, and retail theft prevention. Our brief was to produce a compact yet informative brochure website to showcase all the company’s operations.

We eagerly got to work.

What we did

We learned all about Kavanagh Engineering through a series of meetings with the owner and managing director, and resolved to determine the best way to meet the brief we were given.

With company operations being so wide-ranging, the biggest challenge we faced was presenting a relatively large amount of information in a relatively small space. We overcame this by agreeing a number of headings and keywords to focus upon. Our senior copywriter then spoke further with Kavanagh Engineering, before producing draft text content and having it approved by the client. From there, we moved on to the build.

The website design and build

Our designer’s view was that a sleek and minimalist style was called for here. He adopted a colour scheme to complement the client’s existing logo, and devised an icon-driven interface for home page funnels to lead to further details of all the client’s operations. Colour highlights were used for strategic sections of internal pages content, and a floating bar was used to ensure that the top-level menu and contact details remained visible at all times.

At the back end of the site, full SEO measures were implemented at all stages. This included several steps that are standard to all our website builds, such as site map creation, meta tag and URL optimisation, and webmaster verification.

Our client agreed that the new site was a massive improvement on an older one that didn’t properly portray the company, and so we look forward to our design delivering better results.

Website Design – Photovoltaic Systems

Photovoltaic Systems

A powerful operation

The background

This was the second of three websites we were tasked to build for Kavanagh Engineering, an expert and long-established provider of electrical engineering and other services.

The company had recently expanded into the field of photovoltaic (PV) solar panels for both domestic and commercial use – i.e. solar panels that use natural light to generate electricity for use in the premises where they are installed. They wanted a dedicated website for their Photovoltaic Systems – and we were happy to oblige.

What we did

We first performed diligent market research. This confirmed that installation of Photovoltaic Systems in Ireland is a growing business, with significant online traffic. Armed with this information, we then devised a website structure to firstly show the benefits of photovoltaic solar panels, and secondly to show the benefits of choosing Kavanagh Engineering for their supply and installation.

We agreed the plan with our client. Our copywriter then got to work on researching the field and producing content that would at once be informative and technical, while remaining accessible to the average householder or business owner seeking further information. Once the content was also agreed with the client, we then moved on to the website design and build.

The website design and build

A consistent look and feel to the client’s three new websites was called for, and so our designer adopted the same general style as the client’s main Kavanagh Engineering site. This meant the same colour scheme and similar use of icon-driven marketing funnels on the home page, to reflect the effective and attractive look of the first site.

Similarly, internal pages followed the same design principles, with strategic use of colour highlights and placement of calls to action. All customary SEO work was carried out at all stage of the build. We soon had a site which the client was happy with, and which we were confident would soon begin to rank highly for all key search terms.

Website Design – Shopping Trolley Systems

Shopping Trolleys Systems

Preventing Retail Theft

The background

This website design completed a hat-trick for us, as it was the third of three we were commissioned to build for the same client, Kavanagh Engineering.

This site was to showcase a series of Shopping Trolley Systems offered by the client, aimed mainly at supermarkets at other large stores where shopping trolleys are used. The systems are highly effective, and genius in their simplicity – being based around an intelligent trolley wheel that locks if somebody attempts to push that trolley out without first passing through a designated security point such as a check-out.

The client had already installed such Shopping Trolley Systems at branches of all major supermarket groups in Ireland, and wanted a website to bring details of their benefits to others. We got to work.

What we did

Working in close consultation with the client, we learned that the cost of trolley push-out theft in Ireland runs into many million euro each year, and that many supermarkets are crying out for a system to tackle it. The Shopping Trolley Systems offered by Kavanagh Engineering are the ideal solution, so we devised a plan for a website that would see it rank highly for key terms, to bring the systems to the attention of the relevant decision-makers.

Our senior copywriter produced SEO-optimised content, and sent it to the client for approval. Once we got the go-ahead, we moved on to the design and build itself.

The website design and build

The general look and feel of this site is consistent with those of the other two sites we produced for the client – www.kavanaghengineering.ie and www.photovoltaicsystems.ie

Another common factor is how all our customary SEO services were performed at each stage of the build, including site map construction, meta tag and URL optimisation, and much more.

Separate sections were provided for associated services also offered by the client, such as supply of shopping trolleys themselves, and shopping trolley shelters. Overall, the new site has the same sleek style as the others we built for the client, is equally easy to navigate, and is equally responsive for screens of all sizes.

Website Design – Thomastown Community Network

Thomastown Community Network

Working to improve our local area

The background

Thomastown Community Network is a new organisation in the County Kilkenny town where we’re based.  It represents the coming together of a broad section of interests, with the common aim of improving the quality of life for all in the locality.

Thomastown Community Network was formed via of series of meetings held during Summer 2016. It plans to achieve its objectives through a combination of voluntary community projects and also liaison with statutory bodies and accessing grant aid.

Members asked us to build them a website ahead of the Network’s official launch in late September 2016, to both publicise that launch meeting and to explain the aims for the months and years ahead. We were happy to oblige.

What we did

We liaised with some of the driving forces behind the establishment of the Network, to identify the most important elements of their early plans, and to agree what needed to be on the new website initially.

We also devised a plan for going forward after the Network launch, when the site will become much more active with news and details of upcoming events, as well as serving as a directory for local businesses, attractions, activities and more.

The website design and build

This was one of our ‘express’ projects as time was of the essence in getting the new site live well in advance of the official launch meeting.

Basic information was supplied by Network members and we re-wrote and extended this, to optimise it for layout purposes and online use. We sourced a number of attractive images of Thomastown, and we chose a streamlined design to best present the basic information and an obvious ‘Call To Action’ – for local people to attend the official launch meeting.

The website was also built in such a way to allow it to be easily expanded as time goes on and Thomastown Community Network becomes more active.

Website Design – Alexxi Design

Alexxi Design

Fashion design & web design meet

The background

Up-and-coming Kilkenny designer Alexis Bernstorff from fashion label Alexxi Design has a rapidly growing reputation in the Irish fashion and textiles scene, and found she was increasingly being asked by prospective customers and fashion writers for her website address. There was just one problem – she didn’t have one! She therefore approached us to ask us to build her a site, in plenty of time for a major upcoming event in Cork.

What we did

We established that Alexis’s initial vision was for simply a one-page ‘microsite’, to showcase some of her creations and announce how she would be attending the Cork event. This was largely due to time constraints. We advised that our website design service can be structured any such concerns – i.e. a short timeframe or a low budget need not be a problem – and assured her that we would give her want she wanted, when she wanted it.

The website design and build

We advised Alexis that given the nature of her creations and the restricted scope of the web design project, concise text and striking imagery would be key to conveying the message required.

Alexis provided us with these elements. Then, working in close consultation, we agreed a layout structure and colour scheme that is as striking as her cardigan coats themselves.

The vision for the future is that the site be further developed as Alexis’s fame grows and more garments are added to her collection.
