SEO fact or fiction

SEO Fact or Fiction

Is SEO Fact or Fiction? It’s a question we’re regularly asked when we tell somebody we can improve their site’s rankings in Google. It’s a fair question, and a simple one too.

It’s ‘how do you do it?’

The answer can be as straightforward or as complicated as we want to make it, but what it boils down to is this: it’s by making their website as attractive and relevant as possible, to Google as well as to the typical user.

In years of doing that for websites of all types, for businesses of all sectors, we’ve learned to separate some SEO facts from SEO fiction – and it’s the lessons learned there that allow us to deliver such good results too. Read on for some examples:

Digital Marketing Predictions 2017

digital marketing predictions 2017

It’s time for some crystal ball gazing again. The world of Digital Marketing continues to evolve rapidly, and the landscape is bound to be different in twelve months’ time from what it is now. Here are our thoughts and predictions for the trends we will see in the year ahead:

Mobile will completely dominate

This is not so much a prediction of something new – more a statement of an established trend that will continue. Less and less online business is being done on desktops and laptops, and Google has already virtually phased out from its results pages all websites that are not optimised for mobile devices. If your site is not already optimised, get it updated now – and if you’re having a new site built, pay even more attention to the mobile version than the desktop one.

Don’t waste your Digital Marketing Budget

A recent report into the Digital Marketing landscape in Ireland and the UK shows that companies are spending up to 40% of their budgets on a tactic that just doesn’t work.

It’s the digital equivalent of leaving a shop after just browsing, and then having a persistent (and annoying) salesperson follow you down the street, wailing ‘why didn’t you buy anything? Oh please, won’t you come back and buy something? Please come see us again. We’ve got lovely things for you. Please come look at them. Oh come on, come on, come back to our shop. Please come buy something. We’d love you to buy something.’

Don’t let Penguin Power punish your rankings

Google Penguin 4.0

There’s big news in the world of SEO – and it’s good news for a reputable SEO company like ourselves.

Google has announced it’s rolling out a fresh update of its Penguin algorithm. Penguin 4.0 is the latest instalment of the filter that Google uses to identify and penalise websites attempting to earn higher rankings through the black hat technique of spammy or low-quality backlinks.

While an actual penguin may be timid by nature, Google’s Penguin is a beast. If it decided to penalise your site, you would remain penalised until Google decided on another filter run, which could take several months. That meant there was no chance of improving your rankings even if the problems were dealt with immediately.

Early indications are that Penguin 4.0 will remain just as vicious as earlier versions in imposing penalties.

Why Small Businesses Should Use Local SEO Services

Local SEO services

Days are gone when businesses were found using local phone directories, word of mouth and by placing ads on local newspapers. Decades ago, phone directories were a reliable source of finding required business information, but today you won’t even find the Golden Pages in your home or office any more.

Technological shift of businesses from local phone directories to online is the only reason behind the slow death of ways of finding local business information. Nowadays, whatever we need, we just hop online and do a quick Google search.

With the arrival of smartphones functioning on iOS and Android operating systems, most of the searches for the required products and services are done online. Therefore, if you are a business owner, then this is the time to focus on local SEO Services.
