Whether your website is old or new, big or small, there’s a section of it that’s sometimes neglected but that really should form a key part of your digital marketing strategy. It’s the blog.
Some call it ‘News’ instead, depending on the sort of content it’s likely to feature, but no matter what it’s called, it should be an integral part of your online presence if you’re serious about boosting your business.
Some of our clients like to look after their blogs themselves, and others prefer to have us do it for them, but either way, top reasons we recommend regularly adding new content to your blog/news include:
- It can help increase traffic to your website
- It can help improve your SEO
- It can position your brand as a leader in your field
- It can help develop better customer relationships.
Let’s look at them one by one:
Increase traffic to your website
Your blog or news section allows you to create content that’s relevant to your customers. Always share your blog or news posts on all your social media platforms, with eye-catching graphics, to give your followers reason to click through to your website to read them in their entirety. Alternatively, post links on social media, to drive traffic to the same place.
Improve your SEO
Blogging is good for Search Engine Optimisation. Fact. Regularly adding fresh and relevant content to your site gives it an edge over your competitors in the never-ending hunt for better positions in the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs), or helps you retain a number one ranking you may already hold.
Use relevant keywords in your posts, but don’t stuff them with keywords either, because above all, blogs or news posts must be engaging to the reader. And realise too that your posts will also gain you some SEO power for other terms that you may use regularly in them, even if they’re not targeted keywords – so that’s another bonus.
Note that this means too that your blogs or news posts should be strategic. There is little to be gained from just adding what are essentially random posts on unconnected topics. Ask yourself first
Become a brand leader
Regular, well-written articles can help position your company as a brand leader within your field. By showing your knowledge of your sector, you are simultaneously marketing your customer service, and establishing yourself as the ‘go-to’ brand.
For example, if you are in retail, publish posts about selected products. If you provide B2B services, post well-researched articles about the latest trends and developments in your field.
The more you can show that you know all aspects of your business, the more trust that consumers will have in you, and the more business they’ll want to do with you.
Develop customer relationships
Blog posts or news posts can also help develop better customer relationships. By regularly publishing informative and relevant articles, you build up a level of trust with consumers who like to stay informed, and who appreciate that you are the one keeping them informed.
You can also build these relationships via the social media posts where you share your blog. Keep an eye out for comments and questions there in response, and reply to these followers as soon as you can, even if it’s just to say ‘thank you’ after they post something like ‘good article – enjoyed it’. Again, they will appreciate the effort, and will be more likely to come back to you again when in need of your products or services.
Writing your blogs and news posts
Some of our clients like to look after their blogs/news posts themselves, in their entirety. Some prefer to draft articles and send them to us for ‘polishing’ before publication.
Others like to give us ideas and maybe some bullet points to form the basis of an article, and there are some too who are happy to leave it completely up to ourselves, as they put their trust in us to identify topics and keywords, and to research and write top-class articles.
Whatever your preference, be sure to talk to us about your blogging or news strategy as we discuss your new Website Design or Digital Marketing plan. We’ll help you get it right.
